Seungkwan, a member of the popular K-pop group SEVENTEEN, was officially appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for Jeju. The ceremony took place on November 19th at the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Communication and Cooperation Center in Ildo-il-dong, Jeju-si. This role is deeply personal for Seungkwan, as he was born and raised on the island.
During the event, Seungkwan expressed his pride and gratitude. “Since I was young, I have always felt proud to be a resident of Jeju. Last year, I spoke at the UNESCO Youth Forum and introduced Jeju, a world natural heritage site. Being appointed as a Jeju Goodwill Ambassador is truly meaningful to me.”
Seungkwan shared his vision for the role. “I want to bring positive energy and hope to the people of Jeju. I will continue to promote both Jeju and SEVENTEEN to the world. Please support me in this journey.”
Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon praised Seungkwan’s new role. He called him a cultural diplomat who will represent Jeju’s beauty, nature, and arts on a global stage. “Having an artist like Seungkwan serve as an ambassador is a great honor for Jeju. I look forward to his contributions.”

Protecting Nature and Supporting Local Initiatives
After taking on this role, Seungkwan quickly got involved in local causes. He participated in the Jeju Hometown Love Donation program and supported efforts to protect the southern right whales, which are native to Jeju’s waters. He shared his motivation, saying, “I’ve been thinking for a long time about how I can give back to Jeju. This role allows me to show my love for my hometown.”
Seungkwan’s involvement highlights his genuine connection to Jeju. It also reflects his commitment to raising awareness about the island’s natural and cultural treasures.
Partnership Between Pledis Entertainment and Jeju
This appointment is part of a broader effort to promote Jeju through K-pop. In September, Pledis Entertainment, SEVENTEEN’s agency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. This agreement focuses on creating K-pop content that showcases Jeju and supports its cultural tourism industry.
The partnership aims to increase Jeju’s global brand value by connecting it with the international popularity of K-pop. Together, Pledis and Jeju plan to develop unique projects that will attract attention to the island and its offerings.
A Bridge Between Jeju and the World
Seungkwan’s appointment as a Goodwill Ambassador is more than a title. It symbolizes the bond between a proud local and his roots. Through his efforts, Seungkwan hopes to share Jeju’s natural beauty and rich culture with people around the globe.
His passion for his hometown, combined with his influence as a global artist, makes him an ideal representative for Jeju. Fans of SEVENTEEN and lovers of Jeju can look forward to seeing how he will use this platform to inspire and connect with others.
With this new role, Seungkwan is not just representing Jeju but also celebrating the unique heritage of the island he calls home.
