BTS member V, also known as Kim Tae-hyung, is currently serving in the military. Recently, rumors surfaced that he was given special treatment, particularly regarding his cell phone usage. However, the 802 Military Police Brigade has addressed these claims and clarified that there was no preferential treatment.
What Sparked the Controversy?
The accusations started after comments made by former Adore CEO, Min Hee-jin. On October 29th, Min appeared on the YouTube channel Kim Young-dae’s School of Music. During the interview, Min mentioned that V had contacted her from the military. She shared that V had checked on her well-being, saying, “Are you okay, unnie?” and even sent her a birthday message early in the morning on December 16th.
V had enlisted in the military on December 11th, just five days before Min’s birthday. The situation raised questions about whether they permitted him to use his cell phone during hours when military trainees are typically not allowed to do so. Some netizens suspected that V might have received special treatment because of his celebrity status.
The Military’s Response
In response to these concerns, the 802 Military Police Brigade released a statement on November 20th. The statement explained that the Army Training Center, where V was stationed, allows all trainees to use their phones for one hour on weekends and public holidays. They confirmed that V did not use his phone outside of the designated times.
The brigade also made it clear that V’s phone usage was in line with the guidelines for all soldiers, and there was no special permission or exception made for him. They emphasized that privacy laws, specifically the Personal Information Protection Act and the Communications Secrets Protection Act, prevent them from disclosing the details of any private conversations.
Clarifying the Situation
The military’s clarification seems to put the rumors to rest, confirming that no rules were broken. While it’s common for celebrities to face scrutiny, V’s case appears to be a misunderstanding. Celebrities in the military are subject to the same regulations as any other soldier, and there is no evidence that V received special treatment regarding his cell phone use.
The authorities have thoroughly investigated the claims of preferential treatment and found them to be unfounded, assuring BTS fans and the general public. V, like all other soldiers, followed the rules for cell phone use during his time in training.
