Choi Min-hwan, a member of the band FT Island, has shared details about his divorce from Yulhee, a former member of LABOUM. Their marriage lasted five years before they finalized their divorce in December 2023. Choi recently spoke to Dispatch, shedding light on the events that led to their separation.
Choi revealed that Yulhee left home multiple times during their marriage. He stated, “Over the five years, she ran away more than 20 times. These periods ranged from one or two days to as long as ten days.” One such instance occurred in August 2023, when Yulhee left on the 19th and returned on the 26th. Choi shared that she came back intoxicated, apologized, and promised not to leave again.
Parenting Challenges and Family Dynamics
The couple has children, and managing family life was a significant part of their relationship. Choi explained that while he was serving in the military, he arranged for a caregiver to help from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. After work, he took on parenting duties. He added that his mother also assisted with housework, including preparing dinner. According to Choi, he never asked Yulhee to cook or do household chores.
However, Choi mentioned other difficulties, including Yulhee’s long sleeping hours. He claimed she often slept for 18 to 20 hours a day. He also said that she had tense interactions with his mother, which added strain to their family life.
Controversies and Legal Disputes
Choi addressed a rumor about visiting an adult entertainment establishment, which became a contentious issue during their separation. He clarified that the place was a karaoke venue where Yulhee’s birthday was celebrated. He stated, “The business was not a prostitution establishment. We only looked for another location when no rooms were available.”
Yulhee, on the other hand, accused Choi of inappropriate behavior. In October 2023, she filed a lawsuit for custody and alimony. She also released recordings alleging that Choi engaged in misconduct, including making inappropriate physical contact in front of his family.
Despite these accusations, the court granted custody and parental authority to Choi. Both parties agreed not to exchange money for alimony or property division when their divorce was finalized on December 8, 2023.

The divorce of Choi Min-hwan and Yulhee highlights the complexities of relationships under public scrutiny. While both individuals have shared their perspectives, their story reflects the challenges of balancing personal and family life in the spotlight.
