Episode 7 of The Haunted Palace brought a storm of dark truths, deep emotions, and spiritual battles. It opened with Yeo-ri being cursed by the male water spirit. She fell sick near the riverbank. Kang Chul, who was still in Yoon Gab’s body, carried her on his back. That moment reminded Yeo-ri of her long-hidden feelings. She had liked Yoon Gab for over 13 years. But soon after, she stepped away and asked Kang Chul to keep his distance.
Meanwhile, the King visited Lord Choi. He asked for help to push land reform and get his old job back. But Lord Choi was too tired and weak to assist. He apologized. There’s still a beggar ghost with one leg haunting his family. The spirit has not let go of his grudge.
Yeo-ri also caught sight of a strange ghost girl. The little ghost was stealing shoes from maidens. Yeo-ri chased her down to ask questions. She learned the girl was older than her own grandmother. When Yeo-ri asked who placed a talisman on Prince Young, the ghost replied. It was a eunuch with black fingernails.
The next day, things got worse. The Queen suddenly fell very sick. Lesions spread from her neck down to her womb. She had been cursed in her sleep by the same water spirit. The King demanded to bring Yeo-ri be brought to investigate. But the Aunt Queen resisted, leading to a tense argument. Still, the King got his way. Yeo-ri, however, fell sick again. It was the same curse.
Kang Chul was deeply worried. He decided to act. He made a plan to use the King as bait to trap the spirit. The two argued and even got into a fistfight. But in the end, they both agreed. The riverbank was set up with a full shaman ritual. They waited for the spirit to appear.
Episode 8 Recap
In episode 8, morning came. The spirit didn’t show up at first. But Yeo-ri had a vision. She saw Kang Chul getting cursed. Even in her weak state, she rushed to the river. She knew the evil spirit drew power from polluted water, especially when the sun warmed it. As the sun rose, the spirit appeared.
The King spilled his blood into the river as bait. The spirit attacked him and tried to drown him. Kang Chul dived in and punched the spirit. The King managed to survive. But Kang Chul got overpowered. His freshwater powers weakened due to the dirty water. Just like in Yeo-ri’s vision, he got cursed. The spirit poured filthy water into his face.
But the King had a plan. He used an arrow made from soil to counter the water. Guessing the spirit’s location, he shot the arrow. It worked. The spirit weakened. Yeo-ri arrived and sealed the spirit into a doll. Kang Chul passed out. When he woke up, Yeo-ri hugged him. She was relieved.
Later, Yeo-ri questioned the spirit. She asked who was controlling him. The spirit said he only had one wish. He wanted his remains returned to his daughter. Kang Chul had earlier refused, but now he agreed.
They found the daughter. She cried, remembering how she lost her father during a flood. The spirit asked to possess Yeo-ri’s body to speak to her. But instead, he entered his daughter’s body. He scolded her, then comforted her. He told her not to blame herself—it was his fate.
After that, the spirit left her body. She became weak. Kang Chul wanted her to rest. He changed the weather and made it rain, just so they could spend quiet time together.
Later, the spirit revealed that a blind shaman was controlling him. The guards acted fast. They arrested every blind shaman in the capital. Even the main suspect got caught. But due to a lack of evidence, the King had to release them all.
Yeo-ri visited the King. She shared something personal. Her grandmother died in May during the year of the Black Rabbit. The King recalled that Yeo-ri came to the palace that April to fight the 8 FOOT spirit. That triggered Yeo-ri’s memory.
She accused Kang Chul of being the reason her grandmother died. But later, after speaking with the little girl ghost and checking with the King, she realized the truth. The 8 FOOT spirit had killed the King’s father 13 years ago. It all started from there.
