In Genie, Make A Wish Episode 13, opens with Bu Yeong. She is holding her phone and reading a strange message. The message explains that after three wishes are done, people forget everything. They even forget what they wished for.
Bu Yeong sees a bag full of cash. She does not remember how it came to her. She also cannot recall why she was suspended from her bank job. Confusion grows around her. She only wants her old life back.
Meanwhile, Ka Young goes through the letters her grandmother wrote for her. Simple reminders. Eat meals on time. Take vitamins instead of pills. Small rules for survival. It feels lonely and routine.
Bu Yeong later visits Ka Young. She says she remembers the bag. Bu Yeong thinks she stole it from Ka Young by mistake. She tries to say sorry. But Ka Young tells her the money was given in exchange for something else.
Bu Yeong refuses to believe it. She says she cannot use the money anyway. The police might doubt her. She only wishes to return to her bank job.
Ka Young’s Last Wish Begins
Ka Young takes the bag of cash and buries it deep in a chili field. She then speaks with Min Ji. Ka Young tells Min Ji she feels relieved. She believes Min Ji has already done her part.
Now, Ka Young wants to move forward with her own wish. She rubs the lamp again. But Iblis does not appear.
Ka Young decides to travel to Dubai. She searches the desert day and night, calling for Iblis. Finally, after screaming his name, he appears. She makes her third wish. This time it is selfish.
She wants emotions like humans. Fear. Love. Disgust. Joy. But only for one day. After that, she plans to end her life.
Iblis listens and begins to cry. He tells her that even now, her wish is still for others. Iblis bows before her. He says humans are noble creations. But when the wish ends, she will no longer remember him. He says goodbye.
Ka Young starts to feel emotions. She remembers moments from the past. She cries and smiles at the same time. Memories overwhelm her.
Sacrifice, Death, and New Life
Iblis then goes to Ejieal. He reveals that Ka Young will die tomorrow. But he also remembers his own promise. He once said he would agreed to slit his throat if Iblis ever bowed to a human. That promise cannot be ignored. Ejieal cuts him down.
At the same time, Irem shatters an hourglass. She throws Ka Young’s memories and Iblis’s memories into her. Ka Young now remembers everything, including past lives. She breaks down in tears. She knows Iblis sacrificed himself for her. In the desert, she dies with all the pain of those memories.
Min Ji and the villagers hold her funeral. Later, Min Ji visits the columbarium. She hears Ka Young’s voice. Ka Young has become Jinniya now, fulfilling wishes for others.
Ka Young’s transformation into Jinniya is deeply ironic and beautiful. Having spent her human life isolated and bound by rules, she now exists to connect with and serve others.
Having experienced the full spectrum of human emotion, she is uniquely qualified to grant wishes. This isn’t a punishment but a continuation of her selfless nature, a final acceptance of her destiny that turns her past pain into a purpose.
Min Ji asks for three wishes. The first is simple: Ka Young should eat stew with her every week. The second is to allow poor children to visit her dental clinic. She saves the last wish for later.
The two spend time together. Finally, Min Ji uses her third wish. She asks Ka Young to reunite with the person she misses most. Instantly, Min Ji forgets everything. Her wish is granted. Seasons pass. Spring, winter, summer. Ka Young continues granting wishes.
One day, under cherry blossoms, Ka Young thinks it is the right time for a kiss. Suddenly, Iblis appears. He kisses her. Even he does not know how he returned.
Return of the Old Faces
Later, Ejieal is seen with Ka Young’s grandmother. She threatens him to speak to mankind. Ejieal obeys the higher order.
Iblis tries to live as a normal being. He works in a cabbage patch. He does not have money. But Ka Young remembers the buried cash. She digs it out from the chili field.
Iblis says he is growing his hair to bring Sayyid back. Soon, Sayyid returns and attacks Ejieal, which helps Irem come back too. Smoke fills the air, and Irem lives again.
Iblis greets him. He learns that Pan Guem was the one who brought him back. Together, they begin again. Iblis even leaves his sword in Dubai as a mark of his return.
Years pass. An older Min Ji visits Dubai as a tourist. In the desert, she could senses Ka Young and Iblis dancing the waltz. From the sky, Ka Young’s grandmother blesses them. Both are then called by a new master. They vanish into the air.
Ending
The ending shows the cycle of love, memory, and sacrifice. It questions if wishes bring happiness or only more loss. Episode 13 feels like closure, but also leaves space for doubt.
While the return of Iblis is intentionally mystical, the ending strongly suggests they have both been freed from their karmic cycles. Their dance in the desert, witnessed by a now-human Min Ji and blessed by a higher power, signifies a hard-won peace.
They are not bound by a new master in a servile sense, but are perhaps called to a higher purpose together.
The ending closes the loop on their story of sacrifice, suggesting that true love and selflessness are the ultimate forces that can break any curse and grant a forever, even if it exists outside of normal time.
