“Iron Family” is a heartfelt K-drama about Da Rim, the lively youngest child of a family running a humble laundry shop, who is diagnosed with rare eye disease at just fourteen; her vision gradually narrows, setting her on a bittersweet path as she tries to experience all she can before losing her sight completely.
As time passes and her vision fades, she immerses herself in reading every book, watching every movie, and savoring the world’s beauty. However, just before her sight is gone, Gang Ju, an old college friend and heir to a major conglomerate, crosses paths with her, bringing unexpected complications to her life.
Their reunion, strained by an unintentional remark and followed by a tragic accident, turns Gang Ju into a figure of resentment. Meanwhile, as Da Rim’s family desperately dreams of restoring her sight, they discover a possible surgery that could make it happen, though it’s heartbreakingly beyond their means.
In a surprising turn, Da Rim’s grandmother, An Gil Rye, stumbles upon a mysterious discovery while gathering wild herbs in the hills; this might just hold the key to Da Rim’s world of light and vision, rekindling hope for a future where she can truly see again.
The show, penned by Seo Sook Hyang, the writer behind “Jealousy Incarnate,” and directed by Sung Joon Hae of “Bravo My Life,” captures the resilience of family and the emotional journey of holding on to hope against all odds. The drama stars Kim Jung Hyun as Seo Gang Ju, Geum Sae Rok as Lee Da Rim, Choi Tae Joon as Cha Tae Ung, and Yang Hye Ji as Lee Cha Rim. With episodes airing every Saturday and Sunday on KBS2 and streaming on platforms like Viki, Kocowa, and Viu, “Iron Family” offers a beautiful mix of love, family bonds, and the struggle to find light in the darkest moments.
With 36 episodes, each lasting just over an hour, viewers can expect an emotional journey, diving into the complexities of family love, ambition, and the bittersweet reality of dreams that feel just out of reach. In this drama, viewers witness Da Rim’s resolve, her family’s unwavering support, and the resilience of a young woman determined to create memories worth holding onto forever.
