A Hundred Memories Episode 5, aired on the 27th. The episode showed how one unlucky day changed Seo Jong-hee’s fate forever.
The story opened with Seo Jong-hee (Shin Ye-eun) being caught by Han Jae-pil (Heo Nam-joon). He found out her secret — that she was a guide. It was supposed to be a beautiful day.
Her favorite song played on the radio. The side dishes looked good. The breeze felt warm. But everything changed when she met Jae-pil at the bus stop.
She planned to tell him the truth the next day, but instead, she ran away. That small moment turned her lucky day into a bad one. Sitting alone later, she told Go Young-rye (Kim Da-mi), “Life feels more bitter than alcohol.”
Jae-pil couldn’t stop thinking about her. He jumped rope under the moonlight, lost in thought. The next morning, he visited her again and told her he didn’t care who she was — student or guide.
He just wanted to stay by her side. But Jong-hee turned away and asked him not to come back.
It was Go Young-rye who stepped in next. She explained to Jae-pil that Jong-hee never planned to deceive him. She wanted to fix what was broken between them. But the situation grew worse.
Seo Jong-nam (Jung Jae-kwang), Jong-hee’s violent brother, showed up at Cheong-a Transportation holding her photo. Before he could find her, Go Young-rye faced him directly.
He asked, “Is there a guide named Seo Jong-yeon here?” She lied without hesitation, saying she had never heard that name. When he pushed harder and showed the photo, she calmly replied that no such person worked there. Her lie saved Jong-hee from being caught.
Fears, Secrets, and Hidden Hearts
Later, Seo Jong-nam’s cruelty pushed both women deeper into fear. Seo Jong-hee, still trembling, confessed her worries to Go Young-sik (Jeon Sung-woo). He gently told her, “You can’t hide forever. You must face what scares you.” His calm tone brought her quiet comfort.
Young-sik’s words serve as the central theme of the entire series. In a world that forces these women to hide their identities and desires, this moment is a quiet call to arms.
It’s not just about facing her brother, but about Jong-hee eventually finding the courage to claim her own life, a struggle that resonates with the show’s historical context.
Meanwhile, Go Young-rye kept hiding her feelings for Jae-pil. After night school exams, she joined him, Jong-hee, and Ma Sang-cheol (Lee Won-jung) for a small trip.
Rain poured suddenly, leaving Young-rye and Jae-pil alone in a small pavilion. The song “Close to You” played on the radio — the same song that played the day they met.
In that quiet space, her heart ached. Jae-pil said softly, “I met you before Seo Jong-hee. I liked you first.” What followed wasn’t real — it was Young-rye’s imagination.
In her mind, they shared a sweet date, a glimpse of love that could never exist. Her final words broke the silence: “Goodbye, my first heartbeat. Goodbye, my first love.”
But peace didn’t last.
Back at work, Young-rye filled in for a shift as a bus guide. The bus was full and chaotic. She could barely close the door as it moved. Then everything blurred. The next moments were chaos — a ripped shoe, a bloody sock, an ambulance siren.
At the same time, Seo Jong-hee discovered a giant towel in Young-rye’s locker. It had the logo of the gym where Jae-pil trained. In that instant, she realized the painful truth — Young-rye’s unrequited love was for Jae-pil.
Ending
The episode ended with silence and shock. Viewers watched in disbelief as the screen filled with flashing lights from the ambulance. The sight of Young-rye’s torn shoes and the sound of sirens left hearts heavy.
Episode 5 was a storm of heartbreak, fear, and love that never found its way home. The acting chemistry between Shin Ye-eun, Kim Da-mi, and Heo Nam-joon made every emotion feel real.
The pain of unspoken love, the desperation to protect a friend, and the cruel twist of fate left viewers anxious for what comes next.
While Episode 5 was a symphony of heartbreak, its true success was in making every emotion earned. The characters’ choices felt inevitable, not contrived.
As we look ahead, the central question is no longer just ‘Will Jong-hee be found?’ but ‘How can any of these characters possibly recover from such a physical and emotional collision?’ The aftermath promises to redefine all their relationships.
