In Head Over Heels episode 10, it shifts the story into darker and deeper places. The tone is heavier, and every character seems to carry more pain than before. It’s not about light romance or school crushes anymore. It’s about choices, regret, and the thin line between life and death.
It begins with Bong-su trying to take full control of Gyeon-u’s body. He asks Yeom-hwa how to do it, and she explains it needs blood — blood soaked into a ghost’s memory. That’s the only way. Turns out, Bong-su planned the bathroom incident. He waited until Gyeon-u was at his weakest, hoping he’d hurt himself. He wanted that moment to make Gyeon-u’s body his own.
Yeom-hwa is still searching for the silver ring. It belongs to Bong-su. But he already has it and catches her trying to find it. When he speaks with the general godmother, he questions Yeom-hwa’s actions. She’s planning to smash the ring and call the Grim Reaper.
The godmother warns Seong-ah. She says the only way to save Gyeon-u is to protect Bong-su for now. That means being kind to him, even if it feels wrong. Seong-ah agrees, even though her heart is clearly torn. At school, Bong-su starts acting close to Seong-ah. He pulls her cheeks, holds her hands — he wants to feel human. Ji-ho sees this and realizes the truth. It’s not Gyeon-u. It’s Bong-su.
Ji-ho confronts him. He pins him down and demands the real Gyeon-u come back. But Bong-su doesn’t fight. He says he’s not evil. He just wants to stay because he cares about them. That line feels honest, even if it’s hard to believe.
Feelings Get Messy, and the Ring Becomes Dangerous
Bong-su begins training hard for archery. He wakes up early, practices more, and works like someone with real dreams. Soon, everyone starts liking him. That makes Seong-ah upset. She feels like Gyeon-u is being replaced. And maybe he is.
She hugs Gyeon-u during the “hour of the ox,” the time when spirits can appear. Gyeon-u tells her he was stuck in the mountains. His soul wandered there. He saw memories of a scared young soldier crying. Seong-ah wants him to befriend that soldier, to understand more.
Meanwhile, Bong-su finds out he’s been selected for national archery trials. He tells Seong-ah that if he makes it in, she should grant his wish — a kiss. He even yells it out at school. It’s silly, but the moment is awkward and oddly sweet. Seong-ah looks embarrassed but doesn’t seem angry.
Then Yeom-hwa hits Bong-su with the truth. She tells him Seong-ah still meets Gyeon-u during the ghost hour. And Gyeon-u is now fully a ghost. No matter how human Bong-su tries to be, he will never be truly loved.

Conflicted Hearts and the Growing Power of Bong-su
Bong-su then takes her to a soldier’s memorial. He says this is the man from Gyeon-u’s memory. The tall soldier. The child beside him was named Yoon-bo. Bong-su explains the regret. He died before he could return Yoon-bo’s mother’s silver ring. That regret haunted him. He buried the ring under the memorial, hoping to let go of the guilt. Then he says something blunt. He’s done with being Bong-su. From now on, he’ll live as Gyeon-u.
Meanwhile, the godmother takes action. She stops Yeom-hwa from calling the Grim Reaper without a proper list. It’s dangerous. The reaper can kill without warning. She does a ritual on Yeom-hwa to remove her powers and her patron deity.
But Yeom-hwa refuses to stop. She chooses a baby ghost as her next deity and moves ahead with her plan. Bong-su loses his spot on the archery team. His behavior changes. He becomes cold, tells Seong-ah he is Gyeon-u now, and will act however he wants.
Ji-ho, still worried about Gyeon-u’s soul, visits Yeom-hwa. She tricks him into bringing her the silver ring. He gives it to her, not knowing her full plan. But later, he figures it out and calls Seong-ah for help. At the same time, Bong-su begins having severe headaches. Yeom-hwa is smashing the ring. She’s starting the ritual to call the Grim Reaper.
The Final Struggle
To protect Bong-su, the godmother hides him and ties him up. She wants to keep the reaper away. The final scene builds tension fast. They all rush to the memorial to do a rite. The reaper shows up. He goes after Bong-su but gets pulled away by the ritual happening at the memorial.
Bong-su finds a shaman’s book and starts chanting. His chant calls the reaper toward Yeom-hwa. It works. She collapses. But she’s protected by an amulet from the godmother. So instead, the reaper moves to the godmother. She faints right away. Yeom-hwa runs to her. Tears in her eyes. She asks why the godmother would do that. Then, she dies — in Seong-ah’s lap.
It’s a heavy ending. There’s no clear hero anymore. Bong-su wants to be loved but can’t escape his past. Seong-ah is torn between two souls in one body. Gyeon-u seems lost and forgotten.
This episode shows how much each person is shaped by regret. Even ghosts. There’s still no real villain. Only people who made choices they thought were right. And now they’re paying for it. This episode doesn’t give comfort. It gives questions. That’s why it hits hard.
