Head Over Heels Episode 6 Recap: Ghosts, Curses, and the Slow Rise of a Monster

Head Over Heels Episode 6

In Head Over Heels Episode 6, Gyeon-u and Seong-ah’s relationship is more complicated than ever. At the start of the episode, Seong-ah was crying. She felt crushed when Gyeon-u threw away her gift. But something changed. He walked up to her with an umbrella. He didn’t say much. Just quietly stood there. That’s how she ended up inside his house.

Episode 6 of ‘Head Over Heels’ plunges deeper into the supernatural abyss, transforming personal tensions into a full-blown spiritual war. Forget complicated relationships – ancient curses, vengeful ghosts, and a terrifying possession loom as Gyeon-u and Seong-ah confront a darkness threatening to consume them all. Let’s unravel the chilling events and ending that left viewers on the edge of their seats.

She noticed something strange in the photos. Some old photos had weird scribbles. She knew right away — those drawings weren’t harmless. She asked about the pictures. Gyeon-u explained they belonged to his grandmother, who had passed away not long ago. Seong-ah was horrified. Drawing symbols on photos of the dead, especially within 49 days of death, is seen as a curse.

Cursed Memories: The Dead Speak Through Scribbled Photos

Drawing symbols on photos of the dead, especially within the sacred 49-day mourning period (known as ‘Chilseok’), where the soul is believed to transition, is considered a powerful curse. This act disrupts the soul’s peaceful journey, binding or tormenting it, and is a grave taboo in Korean shamanic and folk beliefs. Inviting vengeful spirits (Gwishin) is a direct consequence.

It invites bad spirits. In some beliefs, it’s like sending that person straight to hell. She told him the photos must be burned. That’s when things started making sense to Gyeon-u. Someone had cursed him. That’s why his wishes kept failing. But the other person their wishes were always working. Seong-ah asked who that person was. He told her it was the same woman Seong-ah once danced with — Yeom-hwa.

Gyeon-u didn’t understand why Seong-ah was still kind to him. He thought she might be siding with Yeom-hwa. He even begged for the cursed photos back. Seong-ah stood frozen. She had tears in her eyes. Then she told him — she had only met Yeom-hwa once. She had no bad plans for anyone.

Curses, Confessions, and the Return of Yeom-hwa

Meanwhile, Ji-ho was on a mission. He needed to keep touching Gyeon-u. It sounds strange, but it had a reason. Ji-ho had become a human talisman. His warmth was needed to protect Gyeon-u. Ji-ho followed Gyeon-u and saw him visit a rich house. There, he met his father. But his father didn’t want him. He shut the door on him. Gyeon-u wanted to speak to Yeom-hwa, not his father.

Back at the columbarium, Seong-ah found a terrible sight. A curse was put on Gyeon-u’s grandmother to make a cursed amulet. That kind of object can trap a soul. It turns it into a ghoul. Gyeon-u asked Yeom-hwa to clean his grandmother’s spirit. When she touched him, she felt a new energy in him. She said it gave him courage. That was strange.

Human Talisman, Haunted Ancestors, and the Unwanted Father

Seong-ah and her godmother prepared a spiritual ritual. They destroyed the cursed amulet. Ji-ho told Seong-ah about the secret meeting between Yeom-hwa and Gyeon-u. Seong-ah rushed to Gyeon-u’s place. Yeom-Hwa found a strange toy that worked like a charm. It had eyes, a nose, and a mouth. It was from Ji-ho. But Yeom-hwa had found it first. Seong-ah grabbed it from her.

She then opened her fairy wings — something only true shamans can do. She opened her shimmering ‘fairy wings’ — a manifestation of pure spiritual power (Sin-gi) believed to be accessible only to true, enlightened shamans (Mudang).

Yeom-hwa saw it. The godmother did something unexpected. She pricked her finger, mixed the blood with amulet dust, and created a curse aimed back at Yeom-hwa. She said she had already spoken to the gods. They would judge her. She was ready to accept the price. She reminded her fellow shamans  — When you curse someone, you dig two graves.

The godmother’s sacrifice underscores a core theme: the immense cost and cyclical nature of spiritual warfare. Her willingness to bear the karmic burden highlights the difference between protective rituals and destructive curses. The “two graves” proverb chillingly foreshadows mutual destruction.

The Curse Deepens: Only One Day Left

Yeom-hwa didn’t flinch. She left without a word. Gyeon-u overheard everything. He went inside and burned the photos himself. But when Yeom-hwa touched him again, a curse flew into her body. A deadly one. Seong-ah told her to go and pray. Ask forgiveness from her real deity. Yeom-hwa refused.

Later, Gyeon-u remembered Seong-ah telling him to hate her if he hated shamans. That moment came back. Yeom-hwa was alone again. She went to a creepy, empty house. There, she made a new doll — one without a head. It was for another curse.

At school, only two days were left until the curse lifted. Ji-ho kept hugging Gyeon-u. It looked silly, but it had a reason. Seong-ah saw faceless ghosts. They had no eyes or mouths. She knew what they were. They were waiting for someone to give them new faces. They were waiting for their master, the evil spirit.

Faceless Ghosts and Rising Evil: Identity on the Brink

The faceless ghosts (Muen Gwishin) aren’t just mindless minions; they represent lost souls yearning for identity and purpose, tragically weaponized by the emerging evil spirit. Their facelessness mirrors the potential erasure of Gyeon-u’s identity if possessed.

The final battle started. All the shamans gathered. They fought ghost after ghost. To stop them for good, they needed the doll’s missing head. Without it, the ghosts would keep coming. Ji-ho and Gyeon-u shared awkward, funny moments as they kept touching. Finally, they found the doll’s head.

Seong-ah made a trick. She spread a rumor among ghosts — their master would never rise. It was smart. It confused them. Gyeon-u, meanwhile, found Seong-ah’s childhood video. In it, she talked about her past. She was once abused by her parents. They used her powers to earn money. She was left alone until her godmother took her in. She was bullied at school, too.

The video revealed Seong-ah’s harrowing past: exploited as a child by her parents who commodified her innate spiritual gifts, leading to profound trauma and isolation. This abuse extended to school bullying, forging the deep resilience and empathy she now shows, explaining her fierce protectiveness towards those she cares for.

Gyeon-u asked Ji-ho directly. Did he know everything about Seong-ah? Did he know why she made Ji-ho stay close to him? Now there’s only one day left. Jin-ung, the school bully, got into trouble. Jin-Ung, running away from his father being ended up in the abandoned house & got stuck in a curse. A ghost dog barked near Seong-ah. She followed it. The dog had been loyal to Jin-ung. She understood it was trying to lead her.

Countdown to the Final Confrontation: Love vs. Darkness

Inside the house, she found Jin-ung. He couldn’t breathe. But then came a twist. A shadow stepped out. It looked like Gyeon-u. He said hello. But something felt off. Was it Gyeon-u, or the evil spirit using his shape? No one knows yet. The cliffhanger masterfully exploits audience dread. The preview’s suggestion of possession makes this apparition terrifyingly plausible.

Key questions arise: If it is the spirit, when did the takeover occur? What subtle clues might we have missed in Gyeon-u’s recent behavior? This ambiguity fuels intense anticipation for the next episode.  The finale promises an epic confrontation. Was the figure in the house the real Gyeon-u, or the malevolent spirit’s cruel mimicry? The preview’s chilling hints suggest possession is imminent, if not already underway.

With only one day left on the curse’s clock, the stage is set for a desperate battle where love, sacrifice, and shamanic power collide. Now only 6 more episodes left to see how Seong-Ah will fight back evil spirits & Yeom-hwa to rescue Gyeon-u. What are YOUR theories on Gyeon-u’s fate and the final showdown?
