Head Over Heels Episode 7 Recap: When Gyeon-U Fades Away

Head Over Heels Episode 7

In Head Over Heels Episode 7, it dives into darker territory.

It’s tense. It’s emotional. And a bit chaotic in a strangely good way. We start with a flashback. Seong-ah is back in school. She suddenly walks out of class. Bok-i pulls her to help Jin-Ung. Gyeon-U and Ji-ho follow her. They end up near that same old abandoned house. Seong-ah stands there, looking haunted. Gyeon-U, calm but worried, says he won’t let her cry again. That promise hangs in the air.

They both try to open the door. It’s stuck. But somehow, Gyeon-U gets inside. Ji-ho is left outside. The door shuts. Alone in that creepy place, Gyeon-U faces something unexpected. Yeom-hwa, who was already there before. She offers him to the evil spirit, like a final sacrifice. And just like that, the spirit takes over his body.

From that moment, Gyeon-U’s body changes. The spirit inside walks and talks with an arrogant tone. It even mocks Seong-ah, telling her to say “hi” back. But it can’t get too close. She’s wearing a talisman. Still, Gyeon-U’s real self breaks through in pieces. His soul pushes forward, telling her to run. That part is hard to ignore.

A Haunting Flashback: Seong-ah’s Mystery Deepens

The spirit asked Seong-Ah to play a game with her. He asks that he hide & she needs to catch him. If she finds him, he promises to grant her wish. He picks up the ring. That’s when the spirit sees daylight. Real sunlight.

The godmother, watching all this, notices something’s wrong. She sees the evil spirit and knows exactly what it is. Meanwhile, they try to wake Jing-ung. He’s been affected too. But the godmother bumps into Yeom-hwa again. This time she asks her straight—why did she do it? Yeom-hwa says she just wanted to live. Their conversation is intense. She touches the sword and faints.

Dangerous Deals and Dark Realizations

Back in Gyeon-U’s possessed body, the spirit walks into school. Arrogant, smug, but oddly curious. He joins Gyeon-U’s old classmates. When a few bullies try something, they get slammed by an unseen force. Ji-ho sees this. He’s shocked. The Gyeon-U he knows would never do this. But the spirit isn’t hiding anymore.

Later, at the arcade, the spirit chats with Gyeon-U’s soul through a mirror. Their talk is cold. He says no one can tell the difference between him and Gyeon-U. He plans to stay in the body. But when he hears arcade gunshots, old trauma hits. The spirit, who once died in war, freezes. That’s when Seong-ah finds him again.

She brings up the deal—the wish. Her only request? Let go of Gyeon-U. She reminds him that he’s cursed, with only 21 days left. She tells him she loves him. For a moment, the spirit vanishes. Gyeon-U returns. Gyeon-U heard her real confession & love towards him. It’s him. But only briefly. The spirit snaps back. Seong-ah grabs his hand again. Gyeon-U shows up once more.

She takes him to the shaman’s palace. They try every ritual. None of it works. The spirit just laughs. While the shamans are distracted, he breaks free. But Seong-ah catches him. She hugs him tightly. Crying. She knows it’s almost over. Gyeon-U sees her pain. He doesn’t want to make her cry anymore.

Possession Unleashed: Chaos Inside the School

Later, they talk. Gyeon-U says no matter what, he would’ve gone inside that abandoned house for her. It’s a sweet moment. Meanwhile, Yeom-hwa wakes up. Weak, tired, and still feeling guilty. The godmother doesn’t scold her. She just listens. Their exchange is raw, honest.

At night, Gyeon-U lies next to Seong-ah. The recurring hand-holding scenes go beyond romance—they symbolize grounding. When Gyeon-U holds Seong-ah’s hand, he stays calm. It’s a beautiful metaphor for emotional anchoring in a world full of chaos. Almost like telling us: love doesn’t fix everything, but it holds us steady.

She turns toward him in her sleep. He panics a little. The next morning, he’s gone. The spirit escaped again. This time, he’s wearing shaman clothes. The spirit heads to school. He meets the archery coach and starts training. It’s comical. His posture is off. Ji-ho spots him. He notices something’s off and confronts him. The spirit kicks him and runs again.

This time, ghost dog Bok-i helps Seong-ah track him. She finally finds him. She asks the spirit his name. He can’t remember. She gives him one—Bong-su. She calls him three times. That has power. Ghost rules. Now things get strange. The spirit recognizing the sunlight has deep roots in Korean folklore.

Spirits that died unjustly are believed to roam in darkness until someone acknowledges them or gives them a “name.” This scene ties into the traditional belief of “Han” (한)—unresolved resentment or grief carried after death. When a spirit responds to a name three times, they must submit. He freezes. She grabs his hand. Gyeon-U returns.

The Spirit Strikes Again: Tricks, Names, and Struggles

She calls the shrine. But they can’t come. They’re still doing Yeom-hwa’s ritual. At school, Seong-ah and Gyeon-U try to avoid hiding that they were holding hands in public. Too many rumors already. But during a fight, Ji-ho barges in. Seong-ah loses grip of Gyeon-U’s hand. Again. The spirit returns. Again. He thanks Ji-ho with a punch. Then runs.

Later, he visits the archery team. He wants to fill out a competition form. Seong-ah stops him. He insists it was part of a deal. He grabs her hand. Says Gyeon-U agreed to it. On the terrace, Gyeon-U finally tells Seong-ah about the deal. In return for the form, he gave up his body for a while.

Then he says something important. He’s not scared when he’s holding her hand. He says he likes her. Then, he hugs her. It’s quiet. Soft. And real. Only four episodes are left now. The story is shifting quickly. Every scene feels heavier. There’s not much time left for Gyeon-U. But it feels like something still might change.

What Comes Next — Can Love Break a Curse?

The biggest question after this episode isn’t just about how to save Gyeon-U. It’s about trust. Seong-ah believes there’s still time. The spirit is unpredictable. But he’s not evil in a simple way. He seems lost. Broken. Like someone who never wanted to haunt others in the first place.

We’re also starting to understand Yeom-hwa. Her choices came from fear, not cruelty. Maybe redemption is still possible. Maybe not. This drama is slowly turning from light-hearted to something deeper. It’s mixing friendship, love, loss, and the idea of second chances. All of it is happening while time is running out.
