Head Over Heels Episode 8 Recap: Hauntings & Hidden Truths

Head Over Heels Episode 8

In Head Over Heels Episode 8, it takes a strange and tense turn. It mixes guilt, regret, love triangles, and one angry ghost who’s surprisingly clingy. Things aren’t just about spirits anymore—it’s also about real feelings, bad parenting, and how everyone’s carrying some kind of hurt.

It starts with Yeom-hwa’s pain. The general’s mother performs a cleansing ritual on her. But Yeom-hwa is in deep pain, both physical and emotional. Through flashbacks, we see her past. She once prayed to a higher power to save her child. But the truth is, the general’s mother never tried. She didn’t buy toys or clothes. She bought a coffin, perfectly sized for the baby. That’s how Yeom-hwa found out her child was already doomed.

This chilling revelation reframes the General’s Mother. Her actions weren’t just neglectful; they stemmed from a warped sense of devotion and control, wanting to own the child’s spirit rather than face the loss. It adds a disturbing layer to her character and her dynamic with Yeom-hwa.

The mother wanted to turn the baby into a deity—to keep the child close forever. But Yeom-hwa screams that she would’ve tried to save her baby. She didn’t want him to suffer a divine punishment.

In another part of the story, things at school are a bit awkward. Ji-ho is clearly annoyed by how close Seong-ah and Gyeon-u are getting. But he’s trying to act chill. During the ritual, Yeom-hwa changes again. She tells the general’s mother that she will regret what she did.

The general tells her to stay locked inside the prayer room. But Yeom-hwa refuses. She says the general has no right over her anymore. She mocks the general for abandoning her, and asks if she’ll do the same to Seong-ah one day.

Love Triangle Chaos: Confessions, Awkward Moments, and Rising Tensions

Meanwhile, Ji-ho asks them if they’re dating. Seong-ah says “No,” a bit too firmly. Gyeon-u looks hurt. In front of both of them, he confesses again that he likes Seong-ah. She lets go of his hand at that point, which was a problem, since he’s still sharing a body with a spirit. He runs off to the bathroom, and the spirit inside him is not pleased. It was actually a pretty funny scene, even in such a tense story.

After Gyeon-u comes back, they secretly hold hands again in school. It’s awkward and sweet. Ji-ho notices, but he still respects Gyeon-u’s honesty. Later, Seong-ah tells Gyeon-u she liked him from the start. She first saw him when he was at the shrine. That moment stayed with her. Gyeon-u admits he thought she was pretty when she patted his head. They’re about to kiss—but of course, Ji-ho runs in.

He wants to say something important. Ji-Ho also confesses. He says he likes Seong-ah. He already fell for her. She had no idea. He tells her she never noticed how much he did for her. Seong-ah says she’s sorry. She really didn’t know. Ji-ho says it’s funny, even now, that she has to hold his hand.

At this point, even viewers are torn. Gyeon-u is sweet, protective, and clearly sincere. But Ji-ho? He’s been there all along, the quiet anchor. The triangle isn’t just about love—it’s about timing, patience, and who Seong-ah is when she’s with each of them. The show isn’t rushing the answer, and that’s a good thing. He asks her not to reject him just yet. He wants a fair fight with Gyeon-u once this spirit mess is over. She agrees—kind of.

But then she lets go of Gyeon-u’s hand again. The spirit pops back up and mocks Ji-ho, calling him a pushover. Ji-ho is shocked. At night, Gyeon-u can’t sleep. Seong-ah keeps hugging him in bed. He gets flustered and falls off. Gyeon-U breaks the hand-holding again. Even the ghost spirit—Bong-su—is looking at Seong-ah softly now, like he’s attached.

Spirits, Curses, and Unfinished Business: When Ghosts Refuse to Let Go

Yeom-hwa meets the spirit and gives him a pain-relief charm. It’s meant to help him let go of the body by ending his life. The spirit laughs. He says he plans to stay inside the body for 20 more years. He finds bullying mean people are too fun. Yeom-hwa warns him. If he refuses, he’ll vanish. He says he’ll come with her… but clearly doesn’t mean it.

Later, Seong-ah and Gyeon-u visit the shrine. Great Aunt, who is blind, senses something wrong. She warns Seong-ah not to touch him—he’s a ghost. She tries to stop her. Just then, Gyeon-u saves Seong-ah. The spirit appears and starts choking Great Aunt. She chants a spell that hurts Bong-su. He’s about to attack her, but Seong-ah stops him. He listens. She holds his hand and walks away with him.

Gyeon-u then asks Seong-ah to lock him in a room. He wants the spirit to promise never to hurt anyone again. She lets go of his hand and locks the door. To break Bong-su’s defense, she calls him. Her ringtone is gunfire—something that scares him. He starts crying. She asks him to promise. He does. He apologizes to the Great Aunt. Her spell now lets Gyeon-u hear ghosts too.

At school, Bong-su wants to find his real name. He believes it’s not in a yearbook but hidden somewhere publicly.

The Real Name, the Final Spell, and What’s Coming Next

Bong-su goes to the library. He learns that the names of past students are now on a memorial stone in Yuwol Park. At the shrine, Yeom-hwa meets him again. She asks if he’s having fun. He says yes. He also says they are bound by a spell—she needs to take care of him, not control him.

Meanwhile, Seong-ah finds a trick to separate Bong-su and Gyeon-u during the archery contest. She draws an amulet. Both souls become each other’s human amulet. It works—but it’s a one-time chance. For now, Bong-su is gone. But Yeom-hwa is planning something again. She makes a new amulet to fully unify with the spirit. She wants to become one with him.
