In the Nine Puzzles episode 4, it dives deep into the dark and twisted turns of the murder mystery. It opens with Kang Chi-muk desperately banging on the door of room 510. When the door opens, a terrifying sight is revealed. Inside, there’s a dead body. A plastic bag covers the victim’s face. Blood is everywhere. The killer is cleaning the scene.
Soon, it gets even worse. The killer cuts up the body and stuffs it into a red suitcase. The suitcase is later dumped into a river. Viewers can only see the killer’s silhouette. The face remains hidden.
Meanwhile, detectives Han-sam and Jung-ho start tracking Chi-muk’s vehicle. But something feels off. I-na, the profiler, notices a big difference between Chi-muk’s nature and what she knows about the killer’s behavior. The pieces don’t fit.
Han-sam checks the security footage. Chi-muk is seen going toward the mountains but never returning. Following the trail, Han-sam heads there. A rope is found inside Chi-muk’s car. A transaction on Chi-muk’s card points them to the Y Hotel. The investigation shifts there.
Everything in the hotel room is wiped clean. But Han-sam spots one clue. A small drop of blood under the wash basin. The forensic team arrives. Han-sam continues the search by the riverside and finds signs of a heavy object being dragged near a boat.
Tensions Rise as Truth Slowly Surfaces
I-na inspects the room. There’s no sign of a fight. The victim was subdued quietly. That doesn’t match Chi-muk’s personality. He isn’t the type to plan or carry out such a clean attack.
Soon after, the red suitcase is recovered from the water. When opened, it’s horrifying. The head and hands are missing. But the truth starts to unravel. DNA results prove the body is not Chi-muk. I-na’s doubts were right.
Han-sam questions Chi-muk’s wife. I-na watches the interview and notices something strange in her answers. She visits their home to dig deeper. I-na bluntly asks how the wife knew about Mi-young. The wife replies that she knows about his past relationships, but it doesn’t bother her.
As the profiling continues, I-na gathers more insights. The couple lived in separate rooms. The wife had a tragic past—she lost her family in a fire. She only survived because she was in another room. That detachment shows. She speaks of death without emotion.
I-na returns to the office. She starts to map out the killer’s traits. It’s someone who enjoys isolation. A new theory emerges—the killer is likely a woman. They re-create the scene. It looks like Chi-muk was tased and taken down.
While trying to reach Han-sam, I-na gets no response. She decides to go to his house. She enters using the crime date as the passcode. Han-sam walks in, surprised. He opens up a bit and shares that his father was an actor.
They shift focus to Chi-muk’s wife again. I-na suspects her even more now. She had lied about many things—saying Chi-muk didn’t return home, switching off her phone all night. Her behavior raises red flags. Under questioning, she admits she was having an affair.
Profiling the Killer: A Woman’s Touch
Her ex-boyfriend, Jae-wook, had threatened her. He claimed he would take Chi-muk’s place. The team tracks him down. Jae-wook is quick to reveal he wasn’t with her. It’s now clear—Yang-hee and Jae-wook worked together.
Han-sam and I-na know they need a confession. They decide to pressure the weakest link. Han-sam confronts Jae-wook and tells him the truth—everyone close to Yang-hee ends up dead. She chopped the body. She’s dangerous.
Jae-wook finally breaks. He confesses. He tells them everything. They follow the lead and find Chi-muk’s head in the mountains. The murder mystery seems solved. But not for I-na.
She tells her team that Mi-young’s killer is still out there. This crime is separate. The real killer is still moving behind the scenes.
Later that night, I-na returns home. A package is waiting for her. Inside is another puzzle piece. The drawing shows a human head. A red line is marked across the neck. Just like before, every part has a red line.
The message is clear. The real killer is still playing their game. And they’re not done yet.
