Actress Song Hye-Kyo opened up about her journey and the challenges of living in the spotlight during her first talk show appearance in 23 years. Speaking candidly on the tvN program You Quiz on the Block, she addressed long-standing rumors, how she dealt with malicious comments, and the lessons she has learned about self-love.

A Life Surrounded by Rumors

Song Hye-Kyo acknowledged that rumors have followed her throughout her long career in the entertainment industry. Reflecting on her experiences, she said, “I’ve been working in this field for so long, and I didn’t know much at first, but I’ve come to see there are a lot of rumors.” She shared that people, even strangers, sometimes ask her directly about untrue stories.

Her response to such situations is both straightforward and composed: “I tell them, ‘I’ve heard that too. Maybe you should ask the person who started it.’” She admitted that while she has grown used to the criticism, it still affects her when it involves her loved ones. “I’m okay when the negative comments are about me, but it hurts when they target my family,” she confessed.

Growing Up in the Spotlight

Starting her career at a young age, Song Hye-Kyo has faced public scrutiny for most of her life. She described how she often chose to ignore the rumors and negativity. “There were many times I just let it go in one ear and out the other,” she said. Despite this, the constant attention wasn’t easy to handle, and she admitted to struggling during tough times.

To cope, Song Hye-Kyo sought guidance from renowned drama writer Noh Hee-Kyung. Noh’s advice about self-love became a turning point for the actress. “She told me, ‘You need to know how to love yourself first before you can give love to others. Only then can you see the world differently.’ But at the time, I didn’t even know how to love myself.”

The Power of Gratitude

Under Noh’s mentorship, Song Hye-kyo started a daily practice of gratitude and mindfulness. Each morning, she would write about how she wanted to approach her day. In the evening, she listed ten things she was grateful for. “I did this every day for five years,” she shared. “I finished it last year, and during that time, I realized there are so many small things to be thankful for.”

This habit transformed her perspective. It helped her find peace amid the chaos of her career and personal life. She added, “When I started appreciating the little things, I noticed how much there is to be grateful for in life.”

A Journey of Self-Love

Song Hye-kyo admitted that her path hasn’t been easy. “As a woman, as a human being, and as an actress, there were moments of sadness and joy. That’s just life,” she reflected. Despite the hardships, she believes those experiences have shaped her for the better.

Her biggest takeaway? The importance of loving herself. “I realized I had to take care of myself first. Only then could I move forward and do better,” she said with a sense of newfound clarity and confidence.
