Taxi Driver Season 3 has been officially confirmed by SBS. The network shared the news on February 6, 2025. The third season will premiere in the second half of 2025. Later, during the Asia Pacific Video Operators Summit in Indonesia, SBS confirmed the final release window as Q4 2025.
The famous line still defines the series — “In a society where justice has vanished, a phone call is all it takes.” The story again follows the secret taxi company called Rainbow Transport, led by Kim Do-gi, who takes revenge for victims who were failed by the law.
Familiar Faces Return to the Rainbow Taxi Team
The core cast will return for the new season. Lee Je-hoon is back as Kim Do-gi, the skilled driver and ex-special forces soldier who delivers justice in his own way. Kim Eui-sung also returns as Jang Sung-cheol, the CEO of Rainbow Taxi and the man behind its secret mission.
Pyo Ye-jin will once again play Ahn Go-eun, the sharp hacker who tracks every target. Jang Hyuk-jin and Bae Yoo-ram will continue as the mechanics Choi Kyung-goo and Park Jin-eon, who keep the taxi running and help Do-gi in his missions.
A new face joins the team — Edan Lui, a member of Hong Kong boy group Mirror. He will make his K-drama debut this season. His role connects him with Kim Do-gi in what’s described as an unpredictable alliance.
This marks the first time the show includes an international actor as part of the main storyline.
Another highlight is the special appearance of Jang Na-ra. She once mentioned wanting to star in a female version of Taxi Driver, and now she gets her chance to appear in the world of the show.
The Team Behind Taxi Driver Season 3
The writing and directing team is mostly unchanged. Oh Sang-ho, who wrote both earlier seasons, continues his work for Season 3. His return keeps the story’s tone and structure consistent. Kang Bo-seung, known for Dr. Romantic 3, joins as the director.
The series will again be produced by Studio S, a key part of the SBS Media Group. Its CEO, Park Jeong-hoon, stated that the team aims to keep the quality high and respect the success of the first two seasons.
On the streaming side, Viu will handle global distribution. It will release Taxi Driver Season 3 as a Viu Original, available to international viewers outside South Korea and China.
This continues the platform’s strong relationship with SBS after the success of Season 2. Janice Lee, the CEO of Viu, shared that their goal remains to support stories that connect with both local and global audiences.
Filming, Production, and What’s New
The production took a new step this time. Part of the filming happened in Fukuoka City, Japan, between mid and late May 2025. This is the first time Taxi Driver was filmed outside Korea. The move signals a broader scope for the story and a possible expansion of the revenge cases beyond Korean borders.
By September 2025, the series had completed filming and entered post-production. The team confirmed they are finalizing the edit and keeping the November premiere timeline.
The show is based on the webtoon “The Deluxe Taxi” (also known as Red Cage) by Carlos and Lee Jae-jin. It focuses on Kim Do-gi, a man who helps victims when the justice system fails them. Each case exposes real social issues, often inspired by true events in Korea.
Both Season 1 and Season 2 were huge successes. The first season, aired in 2021, became one of SBS’s top-rated dramas in its Friday-Saturday slot. Season 2 in 2023 did even better, reaching a 25.6% peak rating in Seoul. The global popularity also grew as both seasons performed strongly on international streaming platforms.
