Girls’ Generation’s Im Yoon-ah has officially stepped down as the MC of the MBC Music Festival. She shared her thoughts on the decision, expressing gratitude for the past 10 years.
On December 30, Yoona stated, “Hosting the MBC Music Festival has been a great experience.” She confirmed that she will not be returning next year. The long-time host first took on the role in 2005 and has since been a familiar face at the annual year-end event.
This year, she hosted the show alongside SHINee’s Minho and TWS’s Dohoon. The first part of the festival, originally scheduled for December 31, 2024, was delayed due to the Jeju Air crash but finally aired this week. The second part will be broadcast on 30 January 2025, Thursday at 4:50 p.m.
Memorable Moments and Special Performances
During the recording, Yoona reflected on her time as an MC. “This marks my 10th year. The final time always feels bittersweet. I will always support the show,” she said.
The festival featured many standout performances. NCT Wish performed Girls’ Generation’s “Kissing You,” while (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon took on G-Dragon’s “Power.” BoyNextDoor and ZeroBaseOne collaborated for covers of “Mr. Mr.” by Girls’ Generation, “Playing with Fire” by Blackpink, and “No. 1” by BoA.
Additional performances included Kiss of Life’s Belle and John Park, as well as a special stage featuring NCT’s Mark, Lee Young-ji, ITZY’s Yuna, aespa’s Karina, and NMIXX’s Sullyoon.
Looking Ahead
Yoona’s elegant appearance at the festival drew attention, with fans praising her stunning dress. Beyond hosting, Yoona has been busy with her solo activities. She recently embarked on the ‘YOONA FAN MEETING TOUR: YOONITE,’ visiting eight cities, including Seoul, Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, Yokohama, Bangkok, Manila, and Jakarta.
She is also preparing for her upcoming movie, The Devil Has Moved In. The film follows Gilgu, played by Ahn Bo Hyun, an unemployed man who takes a job watching over Seonji, played by Yoona. Each morning, Seonji wakes up as a devil, leading to eerie and unsettling experiences.
Fans are eager to see what she does next, whether in acting, music, or other projects. Although her time as an MC has come to an end, her career continues to grow in new and exciting directions.
