On November 16, New Jeans made history at the 1st Korea Grand Music Awards (2024 KGMA), held at the Inspire Arena in Incheon. The group received the prestigious Grand Artist Award, the highest honor of the event. This recognition solidifies their position as one of the most influential K-pop acts of their generation.
During their acceptance speech, the members reflected on their journey and expressed deep gratitude. Minzy, speaking on behalf of the group, shared, “It’s been two years since we debuted. Over that time, we’ve grown so much by meeting new people and facing different experiences.” She highlighted the challenges they had overcome and the ways these moments strengthened the group’s bond.
In a heartfelt moment, Minzy addressed former Adore CEO Min Hee-jin, saying, “I don’t know if you’re watching, but thank you for always giving us strength.” This public acknowledgment touched many fans who remember Min Hee-jin’s instrumental role in shaping New Jeans’ early success.
A Message to Fans and Determination to Move Forward
The group also expressed their appreciation for their fandom, Bernies. Hani shared, “Words of gratitude may sound simple, but they are deeply sincere. No matter how long we’re New Jeans, the bond between the five of us and Bernies is unbreakable. Let’s stay together until the end.” Daniel followed with a powerful declaration: “New Jeans never die.”
Their words not only conveyed love for their fans but also reinforced their commitment to continuing as a team, despite ongoing challenges.
A Complicated Chapter with Adore
Earlier this year, tension arose between New Jeans and their agency, Adore, following changes in leadership. In April, Min Hee-jin was removed from her role as Adore’s CEO during a shareholders meeting, leading to friction within the company. New Jeans openly expressed support for Min, even urging her return during a live broadcast.
On November 13, the group escalated matters by sending a certified letter to Adore. In it, they outlined their concerns and warned of contract termination if the agency did not address major violations.
Adore responded publicly, stating, “We received the certified mail this morning and are reviewing the specific requests. Our goal is to resolve the matter wisely and continue working with New Jeans.”
Looking Ahead
Despite the uncertainties, New Jeans continues to focus on their artistry and connection with fans. Winning the Grand Artist Award is a testament to their talent, hard work, and impact. As they navigate their evolving relationship with Adore, the group remains united, determined, and ready to face whatever lies ahead.
Fans and industry watchers alike are eagerly following their next steps, hoping for a resolution that allows New Jeans to thrive both creatively and professionally.
